The rural develop ment ministry came in for some sharp criticism over the implementation of UPA flagship MGNREGA from activists like Aruna Roy and Jean Dreze.

Both Ms Roy and Mr Dreze have been involved with the MGNREGA since its inception in 2006.

Social activists have alleged that the UPA government is undermining the National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (NREGA) by modifying several provisions in the law.
