JAMMU: With the Asian Development Bank funding worth Rs 360 crore, the Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) has augmented nearly 24 million gallons of water per day (MGD) for Jammu city by constructing 54 tube wells and raising 59 over head tanks.

Not only this, ERA has also provided big relief to the people of the winter capital city by installing 44 high capacity pumping equipment at 13 critical pumping stations for better pumping and 38 dedicated feeders at various PHE pumping stations for assured water supply.

A 3,200-km trilateral highway linking India, Myanmar and Thailand will become a reality by 2016.

The Tamil Nadu tourism department is implementing a Rs 450-crore project along with the Asian Development Bank (ADB). In the first phase, the department would take up the East Coast circuit followed by the Southern circuit. The main focus will be on improving infrastructure and safety.

The first meeting of the State Level Steering Committee in this regard was held here on Wednesday. Tamil Nadu is one among the four states selected by ADB for the Infrastructure Development Investment Programme for Tourism. TN is the only southern state with the other being Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The programme targets enhanced economic growth and provision of livelihood opportunities for local communities through tourism infrastructure development.

Assam has sought financial assistance from the Centre and multilateral funding agency, Asian Development Bank (ADB), for upgrade of sectors like power, tourism and urban development in the state.

A strong request was made by the Assam government to the department of economic affairs (DEA) under the Union ministry of finance, ADB for considering another loan for the power sector so as to enable the state’s power department to strengthen the distribution network across the state.
