This note is in response to a request from Madhya Pradesh Ecotourism Development Board (MPEDB), on envisaging the role of communities in ecotourism. Using six case studies, the possible role of communities across the spectrum of different levels of community involvement are highlighted along with their positive and negative impacts.

The Panna tiger reserve, which is in the midst of an ambitious tiger revival plan, has decided to use the camera trap method, for monitoring the movements of big cats. The park administration till now has been having a torrid time in keeping a close watch on the three adult big cats and four cubs.

While the search for the two missing cubs in Panna reserve continues, the forest authorities on Tuesday claimed that they have managed to track down the tigress that had gone missing for the last few days.

The future of the tiger remains uncertain

A firing incident near the entrance of the Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve on Wednesday has once more brought this protected area under sharp focus. This tiger reserve in eastern Madhya Pradesh came under the scanner after a tigress was hit by a rashly driven vehicle and killed inside the core area on May 19.
