THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A State Government Order adding muscle to the Central directive making Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) labels mandatory on home appliances is expected soon.

CHENNAI: All residents of Integral Coach Factory colonies will soon have energy-efficient compact 14 W and 29 W fluorescent lamps (CFL) in lieu of conventional incandescent bulbs. The CFL bulbs are given free to the residents as part of an energy conservation drive launched by the ICF.

Beginning on February 5, employees residing in railway quarters all over the country can exchange incandescent (IC) bulbs used in their houses for the costlier and energy-efficient Compact Fluorescent (CFL) bulbs.

BPL today said it has forayed into solar photo voltaic lighting solutions and other renewable energy based solutions.

The company plans to target four primary market segments -- residential, commercial establishments, infrastructure and the hospitality industry.

BPL said in a statement it has created a portfolio of solar energy products, alternative luminaires using LED technology.

Karnataka plans to add 6000 MW through renewable energy resources in the next four years, a top official said today.
