Khatmarian border village may get flooded

The erection of high bandhs and the construction of bunkers by the Pakistani army along the border is not only causing security concerns, but also threatening floods on the Indian side by blocking the natural flow of rainwater.

Mumbai-based ship manufacturing and repairing company ABG Shipyard Limited has bagged three out of the last five remaining hydroelectric projects in the state for which bids were invited last year.

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has said Pakistan will soon raise the issue of a dam being constructed by India at the Chenab river, reports our Pakistan correspondent.

"Soon an expert lawyer would be engaged to raise the matter at the international forum. We have already discussed the thing with India," Mr Zardari said.

Talks between Pakistan and India on the controversial Kishanganga Hydro Power Project have broken down, a private TV channel quoted Pakistan Indus Water Commissioner Jamaat Ali Shah as saying on Friday.

Talking to media in Islamabad on his return from India, Shah said the issue of the Kishanganga project came under discussion at the request of India but no progress could be made.
