Chennai: The State will promote deployment of rooftop solar power plants connected at LT level with net metering facilities, in line with the National Solar Mission, said Electricity Minister Arcot N.

More than 70 per cent of work in two units of 600 mega watt coal-based thermal power plant in North Chennai Thermal Power station at Athipatu village of Thiruvallur district is completed and the units will go critical by January 2012, according to TNEB officials.

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Vivasayigal Sangam has filed a petition in the Madras High Court seeking to declare the lease granted to four persons to do quarrying in the temple town of Thiruneermalai, near here, as illegal.

In his petition, K.Balakrishnan, the association general secretary, sought a consequent direction to the authorities not to permit the continued quarrying in the area.
