RTI query reveals contractor was paid `240 cr even before receiving clearance for the project
THE `1,655-crore elevated expressway from Chennai Port Trust to Maduravoyal is yet to get government approval, according to information under the Right to Information (RTI).

In a reply to an RTI application filed by activist Aruldoss on December 13, the Environment Department said

The MOEF had issued the clearance under the Environmental Impact Assessment and Coastal Regulation Zone Notification for the proposed water front development project at Mundra, District Kachchh by M/s Mundra Port & SEZ Limited vide letter No.10-47/2008-IAIII dated 12th January, 2009 and an Addendum vide letter No.10-47/2008-IA-III, dated 19th January, 2009.

CHENNAI: National Coastal Women Movement on Thursday opposed the draft Coastal Regulation Zone Notification, 2010.

The project titled ‘Scope, Structure and Processes of National Environment Assessment and Monitoring Authority (NEAMA) given by MoEF to IIT Delhi consortium had the broad mandate for developing the objectives, structure and core processes of the proposed NEAMA.

The Environment Ministry has issued guidelines for the States to enforce before clearing any construction proposal, pertaining to coastal zones. SCZMAs need to ensure if the CZMA examined the project in accordance to the CRZ Notification, 1991 and the approved CZMP.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) has invited suggestions/objections to the draft coastal regulation zone notification. The draft notification was available at MoEF and TNPCB website. Board chairman R. Balakrishnan has asked the responses to be sent to Ministry of Environment and Forests, Paryavaran Bhawan, CGO Complex, Lodhi Road, New Delhi

The Kerala Swathantra Matsya Thozhilali Federation (KSMTF) has written to Union Minister for Environment and Forests Jairam Ramesh stating that the fishing community in the State totally rejected the Coastal Regulation Zone Notification 2010. The letter was sent to the Union Minister on November 5.
