June 30: The PMO has finally decided to intervene in the issue of acute water crisis in the national capital and has called a meeting of the senior officials of the Central Ground Water Board, Central Water Commission and the Delhi Jal Board over the issue. The Delhi Jal Board has been found woefully short in providing adequate water supply in the city, with its leaking pipe networks reporting a wastage of a huge 40 per cent of water in its distribution channel. The DJB has also fallen short in meeting its own target of 855 MGD (million gallon per day) by March this year as it could reach the level of 785 MGD by the target date.
The DJB plans to set up a big sewerage treatment plant for Commonwealth Games 2010.More plants are likely at Delhi Gate, Delhi Cantt, Pappan Kalan and Nilothi.
NEW DELHI: Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, who is also the Delhi Jal Board chairperson, on Friday instructed the Jal Board to designate a separate officer for every Delhi Assembly segment to monitor day-to-day water-related issues.
