GUWAHATI, Sept 28 – Peculiar geo-morphological condition of the Himalayan foothill areas have made the Dhemaji district rivers deposit sand, and, in some cases some amounts of silt, on their beds.
In all, 1,60, 517 people in 291 villages under the four revenue circles of Dhemaji district have been affected by the floods this year. The total population of the district is around 5 lakh.
Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Tuesday announced a Rs. 100-crore package for the flood-hit Dhemaji district. The announcement came during a tour of the district by Mr. Gogoi for a first-hand assessment of the devastation by flood in the backward district.
