JAIPUR: The water department has raised an alarm over the depleting drinking water sources in the state and proposed an increase in the water rates to contain the situation.

The water scarcity in Indore and adjoining regions of Malwa like the cantonment town on Mhow and industrial hub of Dewas has gone from bad to worse in recent years. In fact the situation has acquired alarming propositions as residents of these areas are getting barely half-an-hour of intermittent water supply every alternate days.

The entire Jammu city is reeling under acute shortage of water that too when the temperature is rising day by day, hovering around 45 degrees Celsius mark.

There are many sources of water in the southwestern part of the country but the people of the Aila-hit areas are facing acute drinking water crises. Most of the rivers, canals, ponds and wetlands in the coastal areas particularly in Mongla and Morelganj upazilas in Bagerhat, Dacope and Koira upazilas in Khulna and Shamnagar upazila in Satkhira district are found abundant with salty water.
