New Delhi: The capital is staring at a grim water situation this summer.

Massive deforestation and unchecked mining of coal, iron ore and bauxite has created a huge water scarcity in Jharkhand.

Jamshedpur, Feb. 28: The midday meal at five government-run primary schools in Mango and Dimna has been stopped from today due to the ongoing water crisis, leaving around 1,000 underprivileged children bereft of their free lunch.

With no water to cook, the scheme was stopped for the first time since schools adopted it in 2002.

Acute water scarcity has been declared in the district and as many as 383 borewells will be sunk to tackle the crisis, district in-charge minister A Narayanaswamy has said.
