Rajahmundry, April 17: Health authorities are carrying out a survey to detect suspected cases of polio involving a large number of health workers in East Godavari.

Rajahmundry, April 13: The East Godavari medical and health department attends to cases in rural areas through its network of primary health centres (PHCs) and rural dispensaries, but seems to be lacking in day-to-day reports of cases for treatment of diarrhoea in private hospitals and nursing homes.

Rajahmundry, April 6: Adulteration of fuels, especially petrol and diesel, is rampant at several petrol stations, especially along NH-5 and in rural areas, as vehicle owners complain of their engines getting damaged due to usage of such fuels in East Godavari.

Kakinada, April 4: Over 300 persons in Seelamvaripalem and Sriramapuram of U. Kottapalli mandal and leaders and activists of the Telugu Desam party staged a protest on Sunday against the illegal transportation of sand by some people with the help of Congress leaders at sand reaches which come under the Coastal Regulation Zone (CRZ) in East Godavari.

Rajahmundry, March 24: Horticulture authorities are going to take up plantation of mango and cashew nut in about 1,347 acres of land in six mandals to benefit nearly 1,700 farmers, mainly from the SC and ST communities under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) in East Godavari shortly.

Rajahmundry, March 23: Health authorities are carrying out an entomological survey to find out the density of larvae and vector in stagnant waters in rural, urban and Agency areas to help authorities initiate preventive measures and ensure that people do not fall victim to vector- borne diseases like malaria, filaria, dengue, chikungunya and Japanese encephalitis in the Godavari districts.

Visakhapatnam, March 23: Laying out full details of the Indira Sagar Polavaram project in presence of civil engineers here on Tuesday, retired executive engineer S. Nageswara Rao urged that pressure should be brought upon various agencies to take up the project on a war-footing and complete it by 2015.

March 21: After facing several problems due to shortage of water for raising paddy during rabi season in East Godavari, farmers are now worried over the chances of labour shortage for harvesting due to the implementation of National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS).

Kakinada, March 14: East Godavari which is known as the rice bowl of Andhra Pradesh, is likely to witness a sharp decline in paddy production in 2009-10. Agriculture officials also agree and maintain that it is the result of drought and would be around two lakh metric tonnes, compared to the yield of 2008-09. But Opposition parties and farmers place the figure at more than 4 lakh metric tonnes.
