NEW DELHI: The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has decided to donate Rs.10 crore for relief works being carried out for flood victims in Bihar. The announcement was made by Delhi Mayor Arti Mehra here on Tuesday.

It was also decided that one lakh packets of gram and kheel each weighing one kg would be prepared and despatched to Bihar.

BANGALORE: Revenue Minister K. Karunakar Reddy on Monday said the State Government would prepare a memorandum seeking a compensation of over Rs. 600 crore from the Centre to take up relief measures in the flood-hit areas during the ongoing rainy season.

New Delhi,Sept. 1: As millions remain marooned, a high-level team headed by Cabinet Secretary K.M. Chandrashekhar will visit Bihar on Tuesday to oversee rescue and relief operations in the flood-affected areas.

Increasing the number of its flood relief columns from 21 to 37 in Madhepura, Araria and Supaul districts, the Army has provided six more helicopters to speed up the relief measures.

While 320 boats are already deployed in the flood-hit areas, 197 more are being organised by the Army, Central paramilitary forces and various state governments.

Food riots as Indian floods destroy 250,000 homes

PATNA, India (Reuters) - Food riots erupted on Wednesday in eastern India, where more than 2 million people have been forced from their homes and about 250,000 houses destroyed in what officials say are the worst floods in 50 years.

One person was killed in Madhepura district when angry villagers fought among themselves over limited supplies of food and medicines at overcrowded relief centres.

Indian technical team on Thursday estimated around Rs 5.25 billion cost for reconstructing the embankment breached by the Saptakoshi River.
A team including flood experts forwarded a letter with the estimation to the government of Indian state of Bihar after an inspection and study in the affected areas and the embankment.
Earlier, the government of Bihar had provided only Rs 80 million for reconstruction.
Meanwhile, a joint technical team of the Ministry for Water Resources from Nepal and India continued working on the reconstruction today.
