GANDHINAGAR: After 35 deaths of cattle due to anthrax, the state government has swung into action and decided to vaccinate all the cattle in the nearby villages of Dehgam.

AHMEDABAD: Nandol village in Dehgam taluka, which is the epicentre of the recent anthrax outbreak in the state, is not new to the disease. Three years ago in Bhaiyal village, 20 km from Nandol, a few bovines had died of a mysterious disease. The authorities then had confirmed the presence of anthrax bacteria in the area.

Ahmedabad : In yet another discovery, Indian Palm Civet Cat was spotted in Gandhinagar. Deputy conservator of forest (DCF) DT Vasavda said, "On Sunday, the staff saw a black cat-like animal in Van Chetna Kendra. Staff then confirmed with experts. The palm cat is found mainly in dense forest areas."

Gandhinagar: The Congress on Wednesday released a politically explosive internal government note of the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd (SSNNL), which says that for four long years, 2003 to 2008, the Gujarat government failed to provide Narmada water to its farmers despite huge quantity of water available for use.

Ahmedabad: After caging two leopards, Gandhinagar forest department is now on the prowl hunting for a crocodile. Security staff of Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam Ltd spotted one in Narmada canal near Karai in Gandhinagar recently.

Ahmedabad: Days after two leopards stalking Gandhinagar were caught, one more leopard has been spotted near Dehgam in Gandhinagar district in the last one month.
Earlier this month, one leopard was caught from Kalol and another near Sant Sarovar dam in Gandhinagar. Both were sent to Sakkarbaug Zoo in Junagadh and later released in the jungle.

Gandhinagar : Come Holi and timber vendors throng state capital to buy wood collected from trees that have been felled, or have fallen due to strong wind or heavy rains in monsoon and are now being sold by the forest department. People come in hordes with tractor trailers, camel carts and mini trucks to take away logs of wood at a nominal rate of Rs 1.10 per kg.

Differences in foliage tissue concentration of elements were assessed for Prosopis juliflora, Calotropis gigantia and Ipomoea fistulosa growing on abandoned fly ash and a control soil. In general, plants from the fly ash exhibited reduced concentrations of N, K, Ca, Mg, S and Mn while elevated trace element concentration in comparison to the control.
