Grievance in the application is against illegal extraction of ground water by M/s Mitsui Kingzoku Components India Pvt. Ltd. in Rewari district in Haryana.

According to the applicant, NOC was granted to the project proponent by the ground water authority for groundwater abstraction up to 30m3/day, not exceeding 18,000 m3/year. But much more extraction is taking place.

The matter related to unauthorized withdrawal of groundwater in major cities of Uttar Pradesh. The court noted that there is large scale illegal extraction of groundwater in Uttar Pradesh by hotels, marriage halls, party lawns including in areas which are scarce in availability of groundwater.

Joint committees have been constituted to find out hotels, marriage/banquet halls, resorts, guest houses in Lucknow, Agra, Meerut, Gautam Buddha Nagar, Bareilly, Varanasi, Jhansi and Gorakhpur abstracting groundwater without NOC from the competent authority.

Ground Water Year Book is the basic data report consisting information regarding the ground water regime, depth to water levels and quality and their variations in space and time compiled and analyzed based on the information generated through field studies.

Monitoring of ground water levels from 768 (745+23) Hydrograph Network Stations (HNS) were carried out in the year 2021-2022 with an objective to assess ground water regime of phreatic aquifer. The water level monitoring was carried out manually in the months of May’19, August’19, November’19, and January’20.
