Units to be set up in B'lore, M'lore, Belgaum, Gulbarga

The State government has decided to set up Disaster Response Forces (DRFs) in Bangalore, Mangalore, Belgaum and Gulbarga.
The four DRFs, each with a fixed area of operation, will cover the entire state taking up rescue and rehabilitation works in case of any natural calamity or man-made disaster, according to official sources.

Here’s another classic example of governmental sloth: The state’s public offices have failed to install power-saving equipment, despite it having been made mandatory, contributing to heavier power consumption in Karnataka.A government circular issued three years ago made it compulsory for all government departments to install electrical ballasts in their offices. This has been ignored by almost all the departments barring two electricity supply companies which are also not up to speed on installing ballasts.

The proposed uranium mining and processing plant at Gogi in Shahapur Taluk of Yadgir District, 75 km from here, is expected to extract 150 tonnes of uranium a year in the form of sodium diuranate (SDU) salt for about 15 years, giving impetus for atomic energy generation in the country.

The Karnataka Government has decided to extend the 24x7 water supply scheme from a few select wards to the entire city corporations of Hubli-Dharwad, Belgaum and Gulbarga.

The Steering Committee of the Civil Aviation Ministry, which considered the proposals of the Karnataka government to set up greenfield airports at Gulbarga, Bijapur, Hassan and Shimoga, on Friday granted "in principle' approval for the projects. The approval is subject to the condition that the Standard Operating Procedure will be formalised by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Defence Ministry on air space management of the airports at Gulbarga and Bijapur in view of the defence operations in Pune and Bidar.
