HYDERABAD: The swine flu virus, which was hitherto confined to a few cities in Andhra Pradesh, claimed its second victim in Mahabubnagar district on Thursday as the disease spread fast to new areas. A suspected patient was quarantined in Guntur.

Aug. 25: Bringing much-needed relief to the farmers, the Southwest monsoon has become vigorous over the Telangana region and active over the coastal region in Andhra Pradesh.

July 30: The monsoon has betrayed the state this year and a looming drought now stares hard at it. Though the Chief Minister, Dr Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, has always claimed that the rain gods are with him, this time they have turned their faces away. His prayers and pujas have gone unheeded.

GUNTUR, Jan. 4: Proposals for the development and expansion of the Uppalapadu bird sanctuary in Pedakakani mandal of Guntur district is pending for more than one year.

The Uppalapadu bird sanctuary is the only sanctuary in the district. Spread over nine acres of land the bird sanctuary provides refuge to over 10,000 birds from various parts of the world, mostly from Siberia and Australia.

Guntur, Dec. 10: Villagers of Mothadaka, Nidumukkala, LG Pudi and Pedaparimi of Tadikonda mandal in Guntur district are panicky over the prowling of two leopards for the past 10 days.
