Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Thursday approved a proposal for irrigating about 26,248 hectare under drought-prone Koksara block in Kalahandi district by drawing water through pumps from the Indravati reservoir.

Under the project, a pump house would be set up near the Hati barrage of Indravati river from where water would be drawn by pipes and released in a canal and then to agricultura

BHAWANIPATNA: A 15-metre-long breach in the left main canal of Indravati project on April 28 damaged standing paddy crops in about 100 acres of land at Kasibahal village.

Besides, crops were damaged due to sand cast in some places and in the down stream of the canal, irrigation was affected.

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government will build two more check dams on the lower catchments of Indravati river to tackle drinking water scarcity in Nabarangpur district.

This was decided at a high level meeting presided over by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.

IN a bid to provide irrigation facilities for the rabi crops, the State Government has initiated several measures, including installation of new lift irrigation points (LIPs).

Crop loss during the kharif because of erratic monsoon and the suicide of farmers have prompted the State Government to take precautionary measures.
