SRM University faculties of the department of civil engineering Dr Deeptha Thattai and R Sathyanathan submitted a feasibility study of coastal erosion in Karnataka to the state government through Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj here at KCCI.

The study was initiated by the Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry as its corporate social responsibility project to commemorate the 70th anniversary.

A Rs 700-crore action plan has been prepared as a permanent solution to sea erosion from Ullal to Karwar.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Monday, Minister for Ports and Ecology Krishna Palemar said the plan will be jointly implemented by the State and Union governments. The Asian Development Bank will provide 70 per cent loan and the balance will be borne by the government.

Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa on Monday launched a pilot project for coastal eco-restoration and sustainable development that proposes developing a 'green belt' along the sea erosion-prone coastline in the State.
