Bellary's mining magnates hogged the headlines during the recent Karnataka polls for their successful foray into politics. In Madhya Pradesh though, the script reads out in reverse.

Here, politicians have joined the gold rush and acquired vast interests in mining across the state. The consequences of this mad scramble for a piece of the mining pie have been disastrous for the environment.

The paper describes case study carried out for evaluation, planning and management of water resource in and around a limestone mining area located in Bamangaon and Mehgaon village of Vijayraghovgarh Block in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh. In the Vijayraghovgarh block was considered as an influencing zone for the water resource study. Average annual rainfall of the area is 1022 mm.

Power would be generated from 'bhusa (paddy/wheat chipping)' and corn stems in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh. A private company is setting up a 7.5 MW biogas power plant at Gudar village in Badwara tahsil in Katni district. Madhya Pradesh Electricity Board has already entered into an agreement to purchase electricity with the company, according to official information.

Madhya Pradesh government today decided to extend facilities under the Industrial Promotion Policy to 19 units worth Rs 9,397 crore. The decision was taken at an Investment Promotion Empowered Committee meeting chaired by Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan here.

Finance Minister Raghavji, his Industry counterpart Jayant Malaiya and Chief Secretary Rakesh Sahni were among those present, official sources said.
