Guwahati: The Assam government is yet to constitute the Kaziranga Tiger Foundation, due to which the tiger reserve has been deprived of the direct flow of funds from the National Tiger Conservation Authority (NTCA). The reserve is also yet to have a full-fledged Tiger Conservation Plan.

Some of the most important habitats likely to support tiger populations in Assam would be mapped by remote sensing in a project envisaged by a conservation group.

The WWF authorities, who are now experimenting with translocation of rhinos, pointed out that Pobitora wildlife sanctuary has the highest density of rhinos in the world. The rhino may not be as glamorous as the tiger, but they are equally sought-after in international markets, which makes the animal more vulnerable to poachers.

DERGAON - The flow of tourists to Kaziranga National Park (KNP), a World Heritage Site, has been increasing every year. The revenue earned from the tourists in the last financial year has also registered an increase. A sum of Rs 1,12,20,698 has been collected in 2008-2009 as revenue against an amount of Rs 87,34,185 collected in 2007-2008. The total increase has been to the tune of Rs 24,86,513.
