The 8th Kaziranga Elephant Festival got under way at Mihimukh, Kaziranga today. The SHG Mela was inaugurated by the Rural Developement Minister Chandan Brahma today.

A total of 135 stalls of the SHGs were opened in the Mela. A large number of visitors thronged the festival ground since morning today.

Two one-horned rhinos were killed by poachers in Kaziranga National Park, taking the number of the endangered species killed this year at the world heritage site in Assam to 14, Forest officials said today. The carcasses of two rhinos, a full grown male and a female, with their horns missing were recovered by forest guards at the Agartoli range of the park during the day.
