JORHAT, Feb 16: The Kaziranga National Park (KNP) has lost as many as nine Royal Bengal Tigers in the last one year, due to various causes. The National Park has lost these rare animals by poacher attack, fighting among themselves, natural deaths and other causes, KNP sources informed. Sources also said that, as many as eight tigers died in 2009 in the park and one was killed in 2010 so far.

Guwahati: An endangered Royal Bengal Tiger was found dead on an isle (chapori) of Brahmaputra River to the north of the core area of Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in Assam on Sunday and forest officials on Monday claimed that the tiger died following a fight with another tiger.

Though the change of course of a river is not a new phenomenon, the latest change of course of the mighty Brahmaputra has created a major concern. The mighty river is turning south and it will have an adverse effect on Kaziranga National Park along with Dergaon and Golaghat.

The carcass of the male rhino was found near Mandi Chapori in the Agratoli range of the Park.

Dibrugarh, Jan. 10: Over a hundred birds died of suspected pesticide poisoning in a tea estate at Moran in Dibrugarh today.

Forest officials said samples of the dead birds would be sent to the forensic laboratory for tests to ascertain the cause.
