BHUBANESWAR: The drive for industrialisation, launched by the State Government, has suffered a severe jolt with ArcelorMittal threatening to abandon the 12 mt steel plant project, estimated at Rs 40,000 crore, in Keonjhar district.

The public hearing in respect of expansion project proposed by M/s Crackers India (Alloys) Ltd for expansion of existing sponge iron plant of 60,000 TPA to Integrated Steel Plant of 1.0 MTPA and CPP (WHRB 32 MW + AFBC 22 MW) of 54 MW at Gobardhanpur in the district of Keonjhar was held on scheduled date & time at Bhagalpur Village under Joda P.S , Dist.

IN Bayakumutia village, 22 kilometres from the district headquarters town of Keonjhar, the wails of a girl rent the air one morning in August. Her 12-year-old younger sister had died after suffering from high fever for some days. The nearest government hospital is 7 km away, and her father, Sukra Juang, could not take the child there for treatment.

BHUBANESWAR: Vigilance sleuths today raided the Unchabali iron and manganese mines at Joda in Keonjhar district in connection with multi-crore mining scam.

BHUBANESWAR: Even as the Vigilance Department of the State government conducted raids at several places in the course of their investigation into the multi-crore mining scam on Wednesday, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) staged a demonstration here demanding that the probe into the scam should be carried out at a fast pace.

It's official now. The Union government has admitted illegal mining of iron ore and manganese in Orissa's mineral-rich Keonjhar district.

BHUBANESWAR: While the dust over the multi-crore mining scam is yet to settle down, BJP has brought a fresh allegation of illegal mining against the Orissa Mining Corporation (OMC).

Party spokesperson Sameer Mohanty today said that OMC is continuing mining operation in Kaliapani mines areas of Sukinda despite seizure of 80,000 tonnes of chrome ore by the Forest Department officials.

BHUBANESWAR: While the multi-crore mining scam is unfolding everyday, national BJP president Rajnath Singh today deputed a party delegation to visit the mines-rich Keonjhar and Sundargarh districts to assess the illegal mining.

The State Government on Wednesday suspended Director of Mines Rabi Narayan Sahu in connection with the multi-crore mining scam. J R Patnaik, Director of Geology, will be in additional charge of Mines. Sources said that Sahu had allowed the Ram Bahadur Thakur Limited (RBTL) to guard the Katasahi and Rudukela iron ore mines in Keonjhar district

BHUBANESWAR: The Vijayawada-Ranchi National Highway passing through 13 tribal dominated districts of the State will be completed by 2014.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today reviewed the progress of different road and bridge projects at a high level meeting.

Out of the 1,219 km long highway, 983 kilometre falls in Orissa and will be constructed by the State Government.
