Waterless wheat makes central India

The study area around Choral river basin in the Narmada Valley region, forms a part of Indore and Khargone districts of Madhya Pradesh. The geological, geomorphologic, lineament, hydrogeomorphic and groundwater potential zone maps of the study area have been prepared using IRS IC LISS III FCC imagery on 1:50,000 scale.

Narmada is the Life-line of Madhya Pradesh both literally as well as figuratively. One of the two rivers in the India which flow from East to West, Narmada originates in Amarkantak- an enchanting hill station and a place of pilgrimage in the Shahdol district of the state and covers a distance of 1312 km., before joining the Arabian sea in the gulf of Cambay.

The government on Thursday approved a new policy for allocation of power that is generated by upcoming state-run thermal power plants. The new policy, which was cleared by the Union Cabinet in its meeting, has reworked the Gadgil formula on power sharing and has earmarked 50 per cent to the home states, where the project is located.

The state-owned power major NTPC on Wednesday said it will invest about Rs 40,000 crore for setting up three coal-based projects in Madhya Pradesh. The company has selected sites at Bamitha, Gadarwara and Khargone in the state for setting up three coal-fired power stations with a combined capacity of 7,960 MW. The average generation cost of one megawatt power is Rs 5 crore.
