The State will have 2520 MW of additional power to its grid by March 31, next year, Home Minister Dr V S Acharya has said.

The State is all set to establish itself as a pioneer in solar power generation with the commissioning of a solar power plant near Kolar on June 17.

Apart from the three megawatts (MW) grid-operated solar power plant to be set up by Karnataka Power Corporation Limited (KPCL), two more projects are nearing completion in Belgaum and Raichur.

In many of the contemporary CDM projects see that community development is simply an afterthought, if it is indeed considered at all. By contrast, the Bagepalli biogas CDM project is an example of a grassroots level project resulting in tangible benefits for the rural community. The project has benefited 5500 poor households in the Kolar district of Karnataka.

Plastic has become a necessary evil in today's world. Living in a world without plastic now seems almost impossible - but the material largely contributes to destroying the environment.

Even the minutest plastic particle can be dangerous, and can lead to environmental pollution. This can be seen in Tamaka, the industrial area on the outskirts of Kolar.

The area is home to at least eight plastic industries, which function from here. As a result, the place is choc-a-block with the waste materials discarded from these factories.

The purpose of the project activity is to set up 5,500 biogas plants (digesters) of 2m3 capacity each for single households.
