JAMMU: Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today said that harnessing of green energy has been given considerable fillip by his Government and generation of solar, thermal and wind power is receiving due attention alongwith launch of hydro electric projects in the State.

Omar Abdullah said that the interest of investors in the sector of New and Renewable Energy (N&RE) is highly encouraging and it will get further boost by the J&K State Solar Power Policy which is in offing.

North India continues to face an unrelenting cold wave as temperatures in most parts of the region on Sunday stayed low and water bodies in the Kashmir Valley remained frozen.

It was a sunny but chilly Sunday in Delhi, with the minimum temperature taking a slight dip from the normal level. The low for the day was recorded at 7.0 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal. Though fog covered the city in the early hours, the thin veil gave way to the sun as the day progressed.

The chill showed no signs of ebbing in North India, buffeted by icy winds, with the mercury continuing to hover below normal in most parts on Thursday.

The minimum temperature recorded in Delhi was 5.6 degrees Celsius, two degrees below normal, although it was an improvement on Wednesday’s 4.4 degrees. The maximum too showed a similar trend and stayed a notch below normal at 20.5 degrees.

34 more deaths in Uttar Pradesh; season’s toll goes up to 233

At least 34 more deaths were reported from Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday as cold wave conditions continued unabated in North, East and Central parts of the country even as temperatures went up slightly at some places. The Capital witnessed a chilly but sunny morning with the mercury rising a bit during the early hours. There was a shallow fog in the morning hours and the minimum temperature was 4.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal and up from Tuesday’s 3.3 degrees.

SRINAGAR/ JAMMU: There was no respite from intense cold and freezing temperature as the mercury plummeted further below the freezing point across the Kashmir today.
