In good news for Lavasa Corporation, which is promoting the controversial hill station project in Pune, the expert appraisal committee (EAC) of the Union environment ministry has cleared construction and development activities that have already taken place on 700 hectares out of the total project area of 5,000 hectares.

A site inspection of the Lavasa hill city conducted by the Pune district administration has revealed that 7,78,86, 600 cubic feet of mining has been conducted in two villages by Lavasa Corporation Limited (LCL). The MoEF final order dated January 17, 2011 states that EIA notification 1994, 2004 & 2006 is applicable to LCL and Lavasa has damaged the environment.
