UP's first confirmed case of swine flu has been reported from the state capital on Monday. The patient was on a business trip to the USA and returned to the country on June 16-17.

Lucknow: The presence of type-1 and type-3 of polio virus in an eight-year-old girl has stunned health experts in Uttar Pradesh. Since such co-infection is rare, they are now trying to find out which virus dominated, leading to early onset of paralysis in the girl.

LUCKNOW: In order to tackle acute shortage of water and manage the available one in a pooled manner, the government has decided to set up water management committees at gram panchayat level all over the state.

With the aim to give an impetus to industrialisation, the state government has formulated a new infrastructure policy under which projects would be completed in a phased manner.

This new policy would focus on completion of major projects like overbridges, metro rail, bridges, by-passes, warehouses and power stations in a stipulated time frame.

A study undertaken by a city doctor has found the children of Lucknow not only underweight but also higher in all the other new parameters issued by World Health Organisation (WHO) for estimating malnutrition among kids.

Its bad news for the Forest department. As if the growing man-animal conflicts in the recent years were not enough, the Forest department is now to set to lose land under the Scheduled Tribes and Other Forest Dwellers Act (2006). The implementation of the Act has been slow in UP but is expected to be completed by the year end.

LUCKNOW: Felling of old roadside trees last year might have been a huge environmental loss for Lucknow, but for the forest department it has been a big monetary gain. In fact, the felled trees have brought maximum revenue and compensation to the department in the past five years.
