BHUBANESWAR: The wildlife wing of the Forest department has raised concerns over the setting up of 1,000 mw thermal power plant proposed by Tata Power Company at Naraj.

Its proximity to critical sites, impact of pollution on them as well as on the wildlife are issues the wildlife wing is worried about.

BHUBANESWAR: The State Government today signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the JSL Limited for establishment of a 1320 MW super thermal power plant at Luni in Dhenkanal district.

The company will draw water from the Mahanadi river system for the plant.

JSL will invest Rs 7,375 crore and create employment opportunity (direct and indirect) for 2,600 persons in Orissa.

PARADIP: The population of blowhole dolphin, declared as an endangered species, has recorded a gradual rise at Mahanadi river mouth in Paradip. Though no census has yet been carried out by the Forest of Fishery Department, it is estimated that there are about 150 porpoises on the Paradip coast, officials sources.

Power would be generated from 'bhusa (paddy/wheat chipping)' and corn stems in Katni district of Madhya Pradesh. A private company is setting up a 7.5 MW biogas power plant at Gudar village in Badwara tahsil in Katni district. Madhya Pradesh Electricity Board has already entered into an agreement to purchase electricity with the company, according to official information.
