The students of Presidency School will take a pledge on Wednesday to take a green turn and hence do their bit to preserve planet earth by planting 400 saplings and taking care of them thereafter.
The power of the Gram Panchayats of sanctioning works under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) has been curtailed down to Rs 1 lakh from Rs 10 lakh, said Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer P Shivashankar.
A survey is being carried out on the land that will be submerged due to the new vented dam. The work will be completed soon, said Deputy Commissioner V Ponnuraj.

Police unearthed illegal transportation of sand in water tank at Railway station on Monday. According to police, 53 barrels of sands were seized. Each tank had 50 kg sand.
