The vigilance wing of state police today initiated investigation into the Uliburu mining scam, estimated to be worth more than Rs 1,800 crore, by raiding five government and private offices at Keon

An official inquiry has found illegal extraction of iron ore from near the B K Mohanty mines at Ulliburu forest in Joda mining sector, sources said.

Collector (Keonjhar) Bishnu Prasad Sahu on Friday submitted a report in this regard to the government following allegations that minerals worth Rs 2,000 crore were illegally extracted from the area.

The Madras High Court has directed the Secretary, State Industries Department, to take stringent measures to arrest illicit quarrying and transportation of minerals.

Govt to take reallot them as directed by the court later

The Karnataka government has cancelled 51 iron ore mining leases in Category C as per the order of the Supreme Court. The government will take further actions to reallot them as directed by the court and the Central Empowered Committee (CEC), chief minister Siddaramaiah said.
