The century-old Chamarajendra Zoological Gardens in Mysore has taken a major initiative to conserve the tiger population in the wake of drastic reduction in their numbers. It has started efforts to pair tigers for captive breeding.

Zoo authorities have paired nine-year-old Brahma with four-year-old Manya, a white tigress, to produce stronger and healthier cubs.

A tiger that mauled five heads of cattle at Devanur village in Gonikoppa of Kodagu district recently, met with a similar fate after the Forest department trapped it early Thursday and packed off the injured big cat to the Mysore zoo to recuperate.

The expert committee which made a study on the rift between wild elephants and human beings at Chamarajanagara, Mysore and Kodagu districts will submit a scientific report within one and half month to Central government.

To look into disputes on land allotment to NICE and to submit report

MYSORE: A spotted deer, which strayed into the city, died of shock after it was hit by a bus near Sriramapura on Sunday.

The State Government has taken up survey of land with modern equipment in Bellary, Mysore, Hubli, Dharwad and Shimoga districts on a pilot basis. The survey would rectify the anomalies in land records.

Residents of Chamundi Hills, one of the tourist hospots in Mysore, rarely get drinking water. When they get it, they get worms free with the water.

Nearly 2,000 people live in villages atop Chamundi Hills. Though the water tank here has a storage capacity of 2.7 lakh litres of water, nearly 70,000 litres of water is supplied to the temple from the tank.

BANGALORE: Despite protests against land acquisition for the Bangalore-Mysore Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project, Karnataka Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa on Tuesday said his government was keen on completing the project, being developed by the Nandi Infrastructure Corridor Enterprise.
