The Narmada Bachao Andolan has asked Prime Minister Manmohan Singh not to review suspension of the Maheshwar dam construction till rehabilitation of affected people despite a request from the Madhya Pradesh government.

The physical and financial progress of various ongoing projects in Narmada Valley would be monitored every week to keep the performance on track. The system will run at two levels, the officers-in-charge at Narmada Valley Development Authority Head Quarters would see the progress on daily basis and they will report to the Vice Chairman every week.

Indore: The water supply from phase-III of Narmada Water Supply Augmentation Project in Indore will begin from the current month itself. The cost of the scheme developed under Project Uday is Rs 675 crore. Under the scheme, 360 MLD additional water can be supplied to Indore and Mhow.

The Accelerated Irrigation Benefits Programme (AIBP) funded by the Centre has not achieved the desired results even after spending Rs 26,000 crore to boost agriculture, the latest report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) has said.

The report also observed that the dams constructed on the Narmada did not realise the irrigation potential the authorities had initially promised.

Indore: Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development KL Agrawal today instpected the forests of proposed Onkareshwar National Park. He said that the proposed National Park to come up in Narmada Valley would be unique due to its special position of water on one side.

Drinking water supply is normal in 176 towns of the state while water is being supplied every other day in 111 other towns. According to information received from Urban Administration and Development department, position of drinking water supply in 26 district headquarters is normal and regular water supply is being made in these towns every day.
