Better late than never. After a long delay, Assam is poised to make rapid strides in freshwater prawn cultivation. Pilot projects in the state have dispelled doubts over the feasibility of fresh water prawn farming in this region.

KOLKATA, 5 APRIL: The National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (Nabard) has decided to increase the priority lending by Rs 20,000 crore for the state in 2011-12, said Mr PVS Suryakumar, general manager of Nabard.

Speaking at a Press conference held in the city today, Mr Suryakumar said in 2010-2011 financial year the priority lending limit was Rs 29,000 crore.
