Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) is monitoring ambient air quality and noise levels during Deepawali day festival from past many years to assess the status of air & noise pollution levels in environment caused by burning of crackers.

Order of the National Green Tribunal in the matter of Biplab Kumar Chowdhury Vs Union of India & Others dated 16/04/2021. The matter related to use of amplifiers during Azaan. According to the applicant, the noise level is in violation of the Noise Pollution (Regulations and Control) Rules, 2000 in the various mosques in West Bengal, causing noise pollution and health hazards. The applicant has requested that the authorities be directed to ensure that the Azaan conforms to the decibel limits as per the Noise Pollution (Regulations and Control) Rules, 2000 throughout West Bengal.

Observations made by a four member committee and task force on Polavaram Irrigation Project in compliance with the National Green Tribunal (NGT) order in O.A. No. 857 of 2018.

The Polavaram Irrigation Project (PIP) officials has said that the overall progress so far made in the project was 71.88%. As per the construction schedule, concrete in spillway including construction of bridge, concrete in spill channel and construction of coffer dams should have been completed by May 2019.

The report was in compliance to the NGT order of November 5, 2020 in Original Application No. 249/2020. The tribunal had given certain directions on the ban on firecrackers.

CPCB carried out ambient air quality and noise level monitoring on selected pre-Deepawali day (09.11.2020) and on Deepawali day (14.11.2020) in Delhi like previous years. Ambient Air Quality was monitored at 40 locations (3 manual stations and 37 real-time stations).
