More than 3,000 people have been rescued in Sikkim since Sunday’s earthquake, which has so far killed 92 people including 53 in the state.

The major earthquake that rocked Sikkim may turn out to be a major disaster as a NHPC dam in north Sikkim developed crack and gushing water has started inundating low lying area forcing hundreds of families to flee for life soon after the tremors.

Gangtok, June 13: The Centre has given permission for the resumption of survey and investigations for three power projects with a combined potential of 709MW on the Teesta and its tributaries in North Sikkim.

Governance of the state of Sikkim is one of the key issues that we take pride in for being very, very good. It goes down to the level of the panchayats. In three districts we have panchayati raj in full flow. Interestingly, in north Sikkim, we have the Zumsa system of local governance.
