Greenpeace India released a report titled ‘Red Alert – India’s nuclear disaster plans, outdated and inadequate’. The report assesses India's nuclear disaster plans and concludes that India’s plans do not offer a complete defence-in-depth for existing nuclear plants.
The U.S. Congress asked the National Academy of Sciences to conduct a technical study on lessons learned from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear accident for improving safety and security of commercial nuclear power plants in the United States.
India and Japan have reportedly reached a preliminary understanding to sign a civil nuclear cooperation agreement after certain technical details are finalised. However domestic politics of Japan, anti-nuclear groups and India’s reluctance to join the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty are some of the concerns that would have to be addressed before the deal is finalised.
