Ongole: The Ongole Municipal Corporation (OMC) decided to set up 20 RO plants under the NTR Sujala water scheme to supply 20 litres of drinking water at Rs2 from October 2 in city.

Yesterday’s cyclonic storm ‘HELEN’ over west central Bay of Bengal intensified into a severe cyclonic storm in the early morning of today, the 21st November 2013 and lay centred at 0830 hrs IST of today near latitude 15.80N and longitude 83.40E about 240 km east-southeast of Machillipatnam, 350 km east-northeast of Ongole and 210 km south-southeast of Vishakhapatnam. It would move northwestwards slowly for some time, then westward and cross Andhra Pradesh coast near Machillipatnam around afternoon/evening of 22nd November 2013.

Khammam, Oct. 12: In an attempt to protect and increase the number of Ongole breed of oxen in the state, an association called the AP Ongole Cattle Breeders Welfare Association has been formed. The organisation will assist farmers raising the Ongole ox. The minister for information, technology and sports, Mr R. Damodar Reddy, is the honorary president to the association.

Ongole, Sept. 21: Kandula Obula Reddy Gundlakamma project in Prakasam district is the only irrigation project out of 76 irrigation projects started by congress government in the state under Jalayagnam programme completed swiftly. Ongole, Sept. 2: Lakhs of villages in India wrestle with health problems because of lack of potable water. But in 21 villages of Prakasam district, it is potable water which is the villain. Water with high fluoride content is turning out to be a slow poison for people in these villages.

As many as 1,056 houses with 3,987 people in 16 villages, are likely to vanish due to the Vodarevu and Nizampatnam port infrastructure corridor (Vanpic) project in Prakasam district which will be set up at Rs 16,000 crore. A special collector had been appointed for acquiring 9,314 acres for the Vanpic project. But Communist leaders warned that they would never accept the project.
