March 24: Gales since the last two days damaged fruit gardens in the Kadapa district. Farmers suffered a loss to the tune of Rs 4 crore.
Fruit gardens, especially papaya and banana, in Kadapa, Rajampet, Kodur, Kamalapuram and various places in the district have been affected.
In a bid to conserve the rare species of orchids found in the North-east, around 10 non-government organisations working for the conservation of orchids, have decided to intensify the campaign against illegal trade of orchids from the region.
The organisations further decided to launch a massive awareness drive, which will begin with the setting up of orchid banks across the State.
Ranbaxy on Tuesday said that it has entered into a business alliance with Orchid Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals, involving multiple geographies and therapies for both finished dosage formulations and active pharmaceutical ingredients (raw materials). However, sources said the option of acquiring additional equity in Orchid, and announcing an open offer at a later stage, could not be ruled out.
