New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday suggested that the Central Water Commission explore the possibility of resolving the Palar water dispute between Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh through negotiations.

VELLORE: Collector C. Rajendran has directed officials of the Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) to immediately visit the places in the Ambur area where there were complaints of tanneries discharging untreated effluents into the Palar, and identify and close such tanneries.

He was presiding over a monthly agriculturists' grievance day meeting at the Collectorate here on Friday.

CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has modified its earlier direction to the authorities not to use any machinery for sand quarrying in Palar river bed in some villages in Kancheepuram and Tiruvannamalai districts.

MODIFYING its earlier order, a division bench of the Madras High Court on Friday permitted the contractors of the State PWD department to use machineries for quarrying sand from Palar river in Kancheepuram and Tiru- vannamalai districts with the ap- proval of the authorities con- cerned.
