Hyderabad: Even after Cyclone Laila weakened ahead of landfall, about 30km from Bapatla in Guntur district, on Thursday afternoon, it left 16 people dead, flooding thousands of homes, snapping power in many areas and throwing rail and road traffic out of gear in the coastal region of the state.

Hyderabad, April 27: The Chief Minister, Mr K. Rosaiah, asked the irrigation department to ensure that water is released under 15 irrigation projects by the end of this year.

Mr Rosaiah instructed secretaries and advisors to stick to the time schedule and complete the projects. He told the irrigation officials that he wanted water released by this kharif.
