GUWAHATI, Oct 17 – Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) today resented the failure of the Government to supply adequate relief materials to the flood-hit people of a vast area of the Rangiya and Haj

Cooch Behar: A bison that had strayed out of Patlakhaoa forest ran amok at Putimari, goring two persons, one of them seriously, before being driven back into its habitat.

They are educated and industrious youths leading a generation living in an economically tough world, who have stepped forward to steer in a green revolution in greater Puthimari area.

The local public of Baihata Chariali, Kamalpur and Puthimari areas under Rangiya subdivision have strongly demanded closure of the coke industries at Dolmagate near Puthimari and Kamalpur.

The Puthimari embankments on both the banks have a number of vulnerable points and if immediate steps are not taken to strengthen the embankments at these points, the river may cause more devastation for the localities situated along its banks in the coming days. This was the apprehension expressed by the local residents while talking to this correspondent recently.

Staff reporter

Overall flood situation in the State has improved a little today with the improvement in the weather condition. However, the water levels of the rivers are receding at a very slow rate, said sources in the Water Resources Department (WRD). The National Highway 31, which is under the floodwaters of the Puthimari river since Sunday last, is yet to be opened for vehicular traffic beyond the Puthimari Natun Bazar point.

Road communication through the National Highway (NH) 31, which was overtopped by the floodwaters of the Puthimari at Kendukona yesterday, is expected to be restored by tomorrow morning. Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today visited the flood-affected areas of Kamrup district. Meanwhile, body of one Chandan Sarma was recovered by the Army.
