A petition seeking directions to revive the glory of sandalwood production in the State came up for hearing in the High Court on Wednesday.

The petitioner, C H Basappanavar, a former chief conservator of forest in his PIL has sought directions to create special sandalwood production divisions in each of the districts to regain the lost glory of the State.

KOCHI: The number of sandalwood trees has gone up in the Marayur sandalwood division.

The latest estimate is that the division has 58,514 trees, 747 more than the 57,767 three years ago, according to forest officials.
