Calcutta, Nov. 12: The Bengal government has invited Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (Bhel) to set up a power equipment factory and suggested as a possible site the land leased out to Tata Motors in Singur.

The government also plans to set up a power plant jointly with the public sector Navratna company in Katwa, Burdwan, where land acquisition has run into trouble from farmers.

The Trinamool Congress, having got a green signal from party chief Mamata Banerjee, is now planning to start an agitation in Rajarhat against acquisition of farmland on the lines of Singur and Nandigram.

Kolkata, Sept. 9: Railway minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday night said she was prepared to compensate the Tatas for the 1,000 acres that had been leased out to them for the now-defunct Nano factory at Singur.

KOLKATA: The Tata group will not sit on the Singur land should any project come up on it, but the company will seek compensation for its investment, chairman Ratan Tata said on Tuesday. He reiterated that the Tatas were not moving their investments out of West Bengal.
