International Firms May Join Race For Two 500MW Projects At Sagardighi

BHEL has expressed interest in undertaking construction of a 2x500 mw thermal power unit for West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL) at Sagardighi.

Several places in Bangalore and parts of the State were plunged into darkness on Sunday as a unit at the Bellary Thermal Power Station (BTPS) and two units at the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) were shut down following technical disruptions.

NEW DELHI: The government on Thursday signed an agreement with the World Bank for renovation and modernisation of 640 mw of old coal-fired power plants. The rehabilitation project entails a cost of $303.4 million of which $180 million will be met through IBRD (International Bank for Reconstruction and Development) loan and $45.4 million from a grant from the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The Meghalaya government has okayed the execution of the 500 MW thermal power project by the state-run North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO).

"One per cent of the project cost would be used for the development works in the project area in the East Garo Hills district," Meghalaya Power minister Mukul Sangma told reporters after a cabinet meeting last night.

The 1,320 MW Rajpura thermal plant will be set up by the Larsen & Tubro (L&T). Sources said a team of senior executives of the L&T met the senior officials, including chief secetary SC Aggarwal today.
