GWEC and MEC Intelligence (MEC+) have released the second edition of their joint report on ‘India Wind Energy Market Outlook 2025’, which provides a detailed analysis of wind power’s role as a critical link in the energy transition in India.

The wind industry installed 93GW of new capacity in 2020, a 53% year-on-year increase, according to a new report from the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC).

This is the second edition of GWEC’s Global Offshore Wind Report, which provides a comprehensive overview of the offshore wind sector globally with the latest data and analysis on market growth, industry forecasts to 2030 and data-based insights on emerging markets.

India Wind Outlook Towards 2022: Looking beyond headwinds report published jointly by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) and MEC Intelligence objectively analyses the factors which have led to a drag on market growth for India’s wind energy industry over the past two years, and provides an assessment on the forecast along with a pathway to ov

Offshore wind is a rapidly maturing renewable energy technology that is poised to play an important role in future energy systems. In 2018, offshore wind provided a tiny fraction of global electricity supply, but it is set to expand strongly in the coming decades into a $1 trillion business.

For many years, offshore wind was the expensive cousin of onshore wind with generation costs in the range of $150 to $200 per megawatt hour (MWh).

This report discusses the issues that impede the development of wind energy in India and undertakes a systematic analysis to propose pathways and interventions to achieve the national target.

This is the 14th annual report on the status of the global wind industry by the Global Wind Energy Council. It provides a comprehensive overview of the global industry at a specific moment in time; an industry now present in more than 90 countries, 30 of which have more than 1,000 MW installed, and 9 with more than 10,000.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has notified National Offshore Wind Energy Policy in October, 2015 for development of offshore wind energy projects for production of electrical power within the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) of the country.

Ministry, in consultation with National Institute of Wind Energy Chennai, has prepared a draft certification scheme incorporating various guidelines issued by MNRE and titled under "Indian Wind Turbine Certification Scheme (IWTCS)".
