JOWAI: With a view to protect aquatic life in the Myntang river within the area of Mooshrot village and its surroundings in Jaintia Hills, the District Magistrate, Sanjay Goyal has under section 144 CrPC prohibited the undertaking of any kind of activities which may endanger aquatic life by way of poisoning and on the pretext of certain festivals.

Nongstoin: The District Magistrate, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin in exercise of power conferred under section 144 Cr PC has prohibited the usage of explosives and toxic chemicals or other harmful substances for killing of fishes and other aquatic life in streams, rivulet as well as river within West Khasi Hills District.

SHILLONG, March 31: Soon after a pro-uranium mining lobby criticized the credibility of the all-party committee on uranium mining, the government under President Rule has denotified the committee.
The dismissed Meghalaya Progressive Alliance (MPA) coalition government had constituted the committee on uranium mining in July last year with former Chief Minister Donkupar Roy as the chairman.

SHILLONG, March 30: With a hope to start uranium mining in Mawthabah area during the President Rule, the pro-uranium mining group today said that they will move Governor Ranjit Shekhar Mooshahary to start the project.

SHILLONG: The Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya School, Nongstoin in West Khasi Hills has been facing acute shortage of water these days.

The school has 300 resident students who have to fetch water from a distance of more than 10 km from the school. The head of the school has even asked for a water tanker to supply water twice a week to temporarily help the water crises in the school.
