Environmental performance index 2010

The 2010 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) ranks 163 countries including India, on 25 performance indicators tracked across ten well-established policy categories covering both environmental public health and ecosystem vitality.

Environmental sustainability has emerged as a critical policy focus across the world. While a great deal of attention has recently been focused on climate change, other issues including water quality and availability, air pollution, deforestation and land use changes, biodiversity, and the sustainability of agriculture and fisheries have also gained prominence on the public agenda. The 2010 Environmental Performance Index (EPI) ranks 163 countries on 25 performance indicators tracked across ten well-established policy categories covering both environmental public health and ecosystem vitality. These indicators provide a gauge at a national government scale of how close countries are to established environmental policy goals. This proximity to target methodology facilitates cross-country comparisons as well as analysis of how the global community performs collectively on each particular policy issue.
