Operational research to support mainstreaming of integrated flood management under climate change

Strengthening the resilience of flood-prone areas against flooding is an important part of the climate change strategy of the Government of India. The National Water Mission of the National Action Plan on Climate Change (NAPCC) has identified a need to develop flood management strategies for the country and for these to include plans for community-based adaption. The 2012 draft National Water Policy advocates structural and nonstructural measures to avert floods and droughts that include preparedness and coping mechanisms. The government is promoting sector reforms at the state level to achieve balanced and integrated approaches to flood management.
